Short Film Actors

Laurel and Hardy

Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel

Laurel and Hardy are a comedy duo made up of English born Stan Laurel and American Oliver Hardy. They become recognised for their comical work during the late 20s through to the 30s. They appeared in a number of short films together before moving on to feature length.

They had appeared in short film separately for the Hall Roach studio in 1920s and by 1926 started staring together in short films. In 1927 they become an official duo and moved on to be the largest stars of the Hall Roach production company.

A number of short films that they started together in are Big Business 1929, Liberty 1929 and their Academy award winning 'The Music Box' in 1932, that I will be taking a closer look at in a textual analysis.

'The Music Box', Laurel and Hardy short film that won the first Academy award for live action short film was produced HallRoach and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer. Today the film is held for preservation in the United States National Film Registry due to it cultural significance. The film is thirty minutes long i'll be looking at the fifty seconds of film footage that I've been able to find.
